Baijiu of widely varying quality is produced in all of China’s provinces, but the very best Baijiu comes from Sichuan Province and Guizhou Province, both in the southwest of the country.

Sichuan Province is surrounded by beautiful mountains, which collect snow that flows down and melts into the naturally pure water that is used to make three of the most highly regarded Baijiu brands in the world: Shui Jing Fang, Luzhou Laojiao, and Jian Nan Chun. These luxury brands are very expensive and enjoyed during the most special occasions.

Guizhou Province produces what is arguably the finest Baijiu brand in existence: Moutai. Moutai is famously the brand of Baijiu that President Richard Nixon enjoyed when he visited China in 1972 and successfully established diplomatic relations between the two countries. It has played a role not just in Chinese history but also in American history!
